What You Need To Know About
Conditioning And Protecting Leather

To keep your leather soft and supple and prevent premature wearing, it needs to be regularly maintained with a leather conditioner and a leather protector.

IMPORTANT: It is absolutely critical that before you use leather conditioning or protecting products, you thoroughly clean your leather first. If you take a short cut, and apply these products without cleaning, you will end up trapping dirt and perspiration, against the leather. And then, what happens over a period of time is, the acidity of the soiling will etch into your leather finish, and eventually destroy it.

About Leather Conditioners

When leather is originally made in the tannery, it is infused with natural oils to keep the leather soft and pliable. Over time, especially when the leather is subject to sunlight, these oils evaporate and the leather loses its suppleness. Now, a good leather conditioner should replace the leather with the EXACT SAME Oils which it had originally.

Once the leather has been conditioned, the leather protector needs to be applied. This will dramatically improve the wear-ability of your leather and preserve its condition

How To Protect Your Leather

The leather protector is a combination of tanners waxes designed to put an invisible barrier over the surface of your leather. This keep the 'bad stuff' from touching the surface of your leather

It's important to realise that the leather protector is a sacrificial barrier that will eventually wear off. That's why it's important to regularly clean your leather and reapply the conditioner and protector, generally every 4 to 6 months.

How To Soften Leather

If you would like to help soften leather which is losing its pliability, we have formulated a leather softener which is a concentrated version of the original leather conditioner. It has a high percentage of the EXACT SAME oils used in the tannery for new leather. To find out more, go to leather softener.

Here's a step-by-step guide to conditioning and protecting your leather upholstery.

STEP 3: Wipe evenly over one section at a time.

STEP 5: On high wear areas such as seat cushions, arms and inside backs, you can apply a second application for extra protection.

STEP 6: You may if you wish, lightly buff your leather with a clean towel to give it a slight sheen.

If this is the first time you'll be using the Pelle leather care system, I recommend you start off with the Master Kit, which contains all the products you'll need to get started. Once you've used up some of the products in this kit, then they can be individually replaced. A master kit will last about 2 years on an average size leather lounge suite.
