Leather Conditioning
Here's a step-by-step guide to conditioning and protecting your
leather upholstery. It is absolutely critical that before you use
leather conditioning products, you thoroughly clean
your leather first. If you take a short cut, and apply the conditioner
without cleaning, you will end up trapping dirt and perspiration,
under the leather conditioner-protector. And then, what happens
over a period of time is, the acidity of the soiling will etch into
your leather finish, and eventually destroy it.
If that happens, you will need the services of a leather
restoration expert to resore it back to its original condition.
What Is the Leather Conditioner | Protector?
The leather conditioner-protector are 2 products rolled into one.
The conditioner being made up of tanners oils to penetrate into
the leather and help to keep it supple; the protector, a combination
of tanners waxes, leaves an invisible protective film over you leather,
to prevent soiling from touching your leather finish.
It's important to remember that the leather conditioner-protector
is a sacrificial barrier that will eventually wear off. That's why
it's important to regularly clean your leather and reapply the conditioner,
generally every 4 to 6 months.
And as we have already talked about in leather
care products, this has been scientifically tested and proven
to be able to DOUBLE the wear life of your leather.
That said, once your leather is thoroughly cleaned, here's how
you go about applying the conditioner-protector.
How To Condition And Protect Your Leather
STEP
1: Apply a generous amount of leather conditioner-protector
onto the cloth provided. Alternatively, you can lightly spray the
it directly onto the leather surface. It is a good idea to work
on a small section at a time.
STEP
2: Wipe evenly over one section at a time.
STEP 3: Leave for a few minutes to dry.
STEP 4: On high wear areas such as seat cushions, arms and
inside backs, you can apply a second application for extra protection.
STEP 5: You may if you wish, lightly buff your leather with
a clean towel to give it a slight sheen.
If this is the first time you'll be using the Pelle leather care
system, I recommend you start off with the Master Kit, which
contains all the products you'll need to get started. Once you've
used up some of the products in this kit, then they can be individually
replaced. A master kit will last about 2 years on an average size
leather lounge suite. More details
